In order to produce responsibly made garments, NAFSI only works with materials that are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) and upcycled fabrics. The GOTS is widely recognized as the gold standard of sustainable processing for clothing & textiles.
Organic textile is naturally mold resistant, antimicrobial & gentle on your skin. Organic crops not only benefit you, but the environment & employees behind your garment. Organic crops replenish soil fertility, build agricultural diversity & use a fraction of the water to grow when compared to conventional crops. The farmer's health is protected as they are not exposed to toxic chemicals used in production of conventional textile crops.
NAFSI's cotton is certified through the GOTS, which means it is grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers and requires less irrigation as it relies mainly on rainwater.
Linen is a sustainable fiber made from the flax plant. A gentle crop that helps deter weeds from the plants around it, flax is typically grown without the use of herbicides or pesticides and requires less water & energy to produce. Linen transitions easily from season to season, keeping the body cool & get's softer with each wash & wear.
The environmental benefits of upcycling are immense. Apart from minimizing the volume of discarded materials being sent to landfills each year, it also reduces the need for production using new or raw materials which means a reduction in air pollution, water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The average garment's lifespan lasts a year before it is thrown into the landfills, taking years to biodegrade. By upcycling, its lifespan increases and its time in the landfills decreases.
Dyes & Chemicals
NAFSI only uses dyes that are certified by the GOTS. Mills & factory employees, you & your skin, are protected from the toxic chemicals found in conventional dying processes.
From tags & catalogues made of recycled paper to business cards made of recycled bamboo — NAFSI only uses FSC certified paper. Meaning all materials come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, & economic benefits.
